Edit February 2020: This product is a short-term solution meant to replace OEM mirrors for a few days or weeks until the OEM mirrors can be replaced. The issue is the mirrored surface scratches and de-laminates easily. This product was intended as a short term replacement as some mines that came to us said if a mirror broke the truck had to stop dead in its tracks until replaced, which could be a major barrier to production.
Back in October of 2012 Redwood Plastics was approached by a mining company located in Ukraine. The OEM mirrors on
their mining trucks were shattering due the tough work environment and we were asked to help. Trucks were stopping in their tracks due to safety regulations. Polycarbonate was selected due to its strength.
After obtaining measurements Redwood received an order for 31 mirrors. The mirrors were to be affixed to the existing frames by the crew at the mine and are treated as a consumable part to be replaced every few months. We believe these mirrors are a common sense solution to OEM mirrors that break easily when taken off the showroom and into the pit mine.
The mirrors are surprisingly affordable and can be produced and shipped within a few short weeks of the purchase order.
