Plastics offer innovative solutions but often not in obvious places. In the sawmill industry, long link drag chain usually rolls over fabricated metal drum idlers. The problem with metal-to-metal contact is premature chain wear and unnecessary noise. Redwood Plastics has developed a solution made from natural-white Redco™ UHMW.
Redco™ UHMW is slick and strong, allowing the chain to glide over the drum with no wear, reduced noise and with no bearing required. An added advantage of the UHMW material is its slickness compared to metal resulting in the chain gliding over the drums even if they seize.
