What are Gaskets?
Gaskets are mechanical seals that fill the gap between two or more surfaces, resulting in a tight, secure seal that prevents liquid and temperature leaks, product loss, or pressure reduction. Gaskets play a vital role in the smooth operations of many key industries such as forestry, chemical processing, aerospace, oil and gas, food and beverage, and mining. Highly versatile to suit the specific needs of your operation, gaskets can be manufactured from a wide variety of materials depending on temperature, pressure, or the type of fluid or gas being contained.
Common Gasket Applications
No matter the industry or application, one thing is clear: a properly manufactured and installed gasket is crucial for safe, efficient operations. The most common variety are liquid-resistant gaskets, designed to prevent liquid leakage and contamination. Liquid-resistant gaskets are highly customizable; depending on the application, they can be built from rubber types that offer stronger chemical resistance, rubber types suited for applications involving fuels, oils, and solvents, and many more.
Along with protecting from liquid leaks and contamination, businesses must also be mindful of shielding their operations from the outside environment. Environmental gaskets are crucial for ensuring equipment is running optimally by guarding against dust and other environmental contaminations. To absorb damaging frequencies and noise caused by vibrations, anti-vibration gaskets can be applied to pipe supports or structural bearings to maintain strength. Lastly, gaskets can also be used as an electrical insulator to protect sensitive displays from shocks, dust, dirt and liquids.
